Without doubt, my car, followed quite quickly by another. I love cars and motor-racing but have always been frugal and driven rather dull (but reliable) diesel estates. When I hit 50 and was on the point of ‘starting to retire’ I treated myself to a fast BMW (still an estate!) and loved it. It was also a bit of a ‘last hurrah’ for the petrol engine whilst you can still buy them and enjoy the sound of a fantastic six-cylinder with your foot down.
We’ve enjoyed it so much (particularly as it was our first automatic) that I came good on a promise I made to my wife before we were married; to buy her a dark blue BMW convertible. Although second-hand and 10 years old, it’s fabulous and we love that one too.
